Enrolment process

Depending on the age of your child and the entry point to learning, Avenues College has separated the slightly different enrolment processes across three sub schools:

  • Preschool
  • Primary School (Reception to Year 6)
  • Secondary School (Year 7 to Year 12)

The Enrolment Process specific to each sub school is detailed below.

Visit the school enrolment section on the department’s website for more information.

Mid-year Intake into school

From 2024, if your child turns 5 years between 1 May and 31 October, they can start school (Reception) in either:

    • term 3 of the same year
    • or term 1 the following year.

Students enrolled through a mid-year intake will complete 6 terms of Reception.

How to Enrol

Please call our Front Office on 8261 2733 to record some preliminary details about yourself and your child, for referral to our Enrolment Officer.  An Enrolment Interview will be scheduled where a formal Enrolment Form will be completed, and verification documentation reviewed.

    • Verification documentation includes:
      • a copy of the child’s original birth certificate or passport
      • residency visa, if you’re a non-Australian resident
      • proof of address (for example utility bill or lease agreement).

Confirmation of Enrolment will follow a successful enrolment interview.

    • Please allow at least 14 days from your enquiry for an enrolment interview to be scheduled.  Please notify us when making an initial enrolment enquiry, if the enrolment of your child is more pressing.
    • Please note that, upon enrolment, your child’s start date may be delayed to coincide with the beginning of a school week/term.

Primary School Zones

Refer to the Department for Education Catchment Area page to determine if your residential address is within our zone.  The school gives priority enrolment to children who live inside that zone or catchment area.

Secondary Years Enrolments (Year 7 to 12)

There are two main entry points to the Secondary Years:

Year 6 to High School Enrolments

The enrolment process for Year 7 is managed by the Department for Education, online via a link provided by the primary school your child is attending in Year 6.

You will be asked to complete some personal information and to nominate up to three preferred secondary schools.

Your preferences are reviewed along with school zoning and student population limitations, before you are allocated to a specific secondary school.  You will have the opportunity to appeal these decisions against specified criteria.

Allocated secondary schools will then contact you with the commencement information and documentation for you to complete.

Transitioning students will have the opportunity to attend their secondary school for two consecutive days, to meet their peers, their teachers and participate in some orientation activities.  These two days are the same for all public schools in SA to support all future Year 7 students to attend.

Year 8 – 12 Enrolments
